On 20 March 1983 Diana, Charles and William arrived at Alice Springs’ airport in Australia for their six-week-long tour.Dressed in a sweet white smock, the nine-month-old prince was carried by his nanny Barbara Barnes as they disembarked the plane.
Bathed in sunlight, Charles and Diana showed off their little boy to the gathering of well-wishers who greeted them at the airport.
After almost a month in Australia it was time for the royal trio to head to New Zealand.
Wearing a loose lilac dress, Diana carried William in her arms as they departed the city of Melbourne.
It was William’s beloved nanny Barbara who was charged with carrying the tot safely off the plane as they arrived in Auckland.
Royal watchers were delighted when Charles and Diana took part in a photocall during their time in New Zealand.
The future Duke of Cambridge took centre stage as he crawled around on a rug in the picturesque grounds of Auckland’s Government House.
Using his father’s leg for support William stood up by himself, much to Diana’s delight.
Charles carried baby William as he and Diana strolled the sunlit grounds with their press officer, Victor Chapman.
Despite the gruelling 27-hour journey home, William was as good as gold as he emerged from the plane at Gatwick airport and headed back to Kensington Palace with his nanny Barbara.
Closely following the young royal was his other nanny Olga Powell, who died in September 2013.
